We, at Onsite Health Diagnostics, are proud of the work that we, along with our screening industry partners, are doing to quickly mobilize the U.S. to get back to work by providing access to nationwide SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody testing. Testing can help identify who may have been exposed to the virus that causes the COVID-19 infection, and potentially developed an immune response.
As such, we can facilitate this testing either through our LabCorp Voucher program or through onsite venipuncture blood draws at work locations. This type of COVID-19 antibody test is for individuals who think they may have had the virus and no longer have symptoms.
Antibody tests check your blood by looking for antibodies. These antibodies can show if you had a past infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. Antibodies are proteins that help fight off infections. Such antibodies usually provide protection against getting that disease again (immunity). Depending on when someone was infected and the timing of the test, the test may not find antibodies in someone with current COVID-19 infection. Antibody tests should not be used to diagnose if you currently have the virus.
Experience with other viruses suggests that individuals who have antibodies may be able to return to work and other daily activities in society. However, whether you test positive or negative for COVID-19 (IgG) antibody test, you should still take preventive measures to protect yourself and others. We do not know yet if people who recover from COVID-19 can get infected again. Scientists are working to understand this.
