What is a biometric health screening and why do companies do them?

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines biometric screenings as the measurement of physical characteristics such as height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, blood glucose, and aerobic fitness that can be taken at the worksite and used as a standalone or part of a  workplace health assessment to benchmark and evaluate changes in employee health stats over time. The goal of implementing biometric screenings is to reduce health risks, improve health status, reduce health care costs, and improve the productivity and performance of the workforce.

Physician Biometric Screenings

A physician screening option is a great addition to an employee wellness program. It gives flexibility to those who would rather see their doctor at a time that’s convenient for them, and it improves access if you have worksites where onsite events are not being offered.

Home Test Biometric Screening Kits

Home Test Kits allow those who have no access to the other types of biometric screenings an opportunity to participate. Employees can either register online through our portal or call our customer service center in order to receive a home test kit in the mail. Once the test kit is received, the participant follows the instructions provided to self-administer a finger-stick to correctly capture the blood sample. The participant will then send the sample in a pre-addressed envelope to the lab where it is processed. The data is sent directly to Onsite Health Diagnostics via a secure HL-7 data feed from LabCorp.
